Live Hornworms – Medium 12ct
IMPORTANT: Our medium hornworms are shipped small and may be smaller than the product photo. Hornworms grow extremely fast, so we send them as small as practical to help prevent them from becoming oversized during shipping delays.
They are not intended to grow past medium size. We recommend feeding them relatively quickly so they don't become too large or run out of food.
What are hornworms?
Hornworms are the larvae of the Hawk Moth/Sphinx Moth (Manduca sexta). In the wild, they feed primarily on plants such as tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, and tobacco.
In captivity, hornworms are popular live feeder insects for insectivorous and omnivorous reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. Their soft bodies and high moisture content make them an excellent addition to a varied feeder rotation.
Important: Never feed wild hornworms to your pets. Wild hornworms may consume plants that contain compounds that can be harmful to animals. Only use hornworms raised specifically as feeders.
How often can hornworms be offered?
Hornworms can be offered regularly as part of a varied feeder rotation, but we do not recommend feeding hornworms exclusively. A varied diet that includes staple feeders such as Dubia roaches alongside hornworms provides more balanced nutrition.
Hornworms have a high moisture content, so feeding large quantities may result in looser stools.
Do hornworms need to be dusted with calcium?
Hornworms generally have a favorable calcium-to-phosphorus ratio compared with many other feeder insects. Calcium supplementation should still be based on your animal's species, age, diet, and husbandry requirements.
Hornworm Care
Each cup contains at least 12 live hornworms and enough food to grow them to the intended size. They may arrive very small, but hornworms grow extremely quickly.
